VALORANT Movement Guide: Counter-Strafing, Dead-Zoning & Jiggle Peeking

Learn professional movement fundamentals: frame-perfect counter-strafing, silent jump peeks, dead-zone firing, and wide-swing mechanics.

Gunplay in VALORANT is entirely tied to momentum. Firing while your character is moving introduces extreme bullet spread, rendering even crosshair-aligned shots inaccurate.

1. Counter-Strafing Explained To achieve instant zero-velocity accuracy, tap the opposite directional key the moment you want to fire. If strafing right (holding D), release D and tap A once. Your velocity resets to 0 km/h in approximately 12 milliseconds, allowing 100% first-bullet accuracy.

2. Dead-Zoning (The High-Elo Strafe Duel) Dead-zoning is the technique of firing during the brief transition window when changing strafe directions. By rhythmically alternating between A and D, you can fire 1-2 accurate bullets at the apex of each direction change while remaining an elusive, moving target.

3. Jiggle Peeking vs. Jump Peeking * **Jiggle Peeking:** Rapid micro-strafes around a corner shoulder-first to bait enemy Operator shots without revealing your head. * **Jump Peeking:** Jumping sideways out of cover, immediately air-strafing back into safety, and gathering visual intel on enemy positions without exposing your hitbox for more than 150 milliseconds.

4. When to Wide Swing Never wide-swing an angle unless you know the enemy is holding a tight angle with a sniper. Wide swinging forces the enemy sniper to micro-adjust their crosshair horizontally, increasing their chance of whiffing.
